Founded by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex in 2014, the Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, both serving and veterans. The word 'Invictus' means 'unconquered', chosen as an embodiment of the fighting spirit of the wounded, injured and sick service personnel and what they can achieve, post injury both psychologically and physically.
This year, the games will be held in Düsseldorf, Germany from September 9th to the 16th and feature 21 Nations, 10 sports, 1500 voluntees and 550 competitors of which are 32 are Canadian competitors. Table Tennis will be strongly represented by several Canadian service men and women, either physically or mentally injured. OTTC's very own Steve Lambruschini and coach Priyanka Pareek went down to help them set up tables and spent a few hours with the athletes, providing some training advice to those involved. Everyone was extremely enthusiastic about playing for Canada and are looking forward to going to Germany to do their best. Let's all wish them all the best on having a great time, enjoying the journey and representing Canada at the games.
The international sports event will run from 9th to the 16th of September.
