The rebirth of table tennis in Ottawa:
About the Ottawa Table Tennis Club
In 2015, as summer turned to fall and the trees were just days away from offering spectacular vistas though out the Ottawa valley and Gatineau Hills, Ottawa’s table tennis community received news that the national team and training centre was moving to Markham.
Although the news was shocking, it wasn't really a surprise. The Pan–Am and Parapan Games held in Toronto just a month earlier left a legacy that included a beautiful facility—the Markham Pan Am Centre—that could easily house up to 12 tables in a structure built to international competition standards. With a 50-metre pool and a state-of-the-art fitness facility, it will also be perfect for national and international training camps.
All good news for the national team, of course, but the move left a gaping hole in the growing local table tennis community.
But when one door closes. . .
What some saw as misfortune, we saw as opportunity. The Ottawa Table Tennis Club took up residence in January 2017, determined to, once again, make this address THE place to play table tennis in Ottawa.
It’s an awesome feeling, knowing Champions have walked through the doors and have played—and still do!—on the very spot where you are standing. Some say you can feel it in the air. Some soak it up and use it for inspiration. Others are just happy to walk in the footsteps of the Champions who have walked through our doors.
Ottawa’s only full-time table tennis club
We are not the first table tennis club in Ottawa, but we are the only one open from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekends. If you want a club where you play when you want to play instead of when the club wants you to play, you’ve come to the right place. Come on out and have a smashing good time—every day of the week!
